Hello, my name is Kimberly Guzman and I was born in
Yonkers New York in 1999. At the age of 5 years old, I move
to Mexico and live there for 10 years. During that time I
live in
a little town where I experience a lot of thing
as an older sister and having responsabilites to take care of my sisters
and help my grandmother with her grocery store.
At the age of fifteen, I went to study in Florida.
I started as an ESL and in that time I started to be
interested in other languages since I force myself to not
speak Spanish but to speak the little English that I knew with
my Vietnamese friend who had the same English situation as me.
We couldn’t communicate properly, we would use our body,
hands, and even sounds to express what we wanted to say.
Later one, because of personal circumstances I moved back
to Mexico and I did not learn English for a year but the year
after that I went back once again to the U.S and this time to New York.
I went to an International High school where all of my classmates
were learning English like me and that opened once again my
curiosity in languages and ways of communication and accents
since I would hear different languages on the hallways,
classroom, and lunch break. I even tried to learn at least
some words such as Chinese, and Bengali since I liked the accent.
In my three years in High School, I was able to learn English
until I graduated and went to College.
